Te Arawai

Te Arawai | the waterway

Our school story speaks of the path water takes from dropping onto Whitireia and Rangituhi, gathering in the Tawa Valley and the Parirua Harbour and then heading out to straits of Raukawa Moana. Te Arawai is the name of our school merits programme; a pathway that individuals can take to support them to flourish as life long learners.

Our purpose

Developed by staff and students, Te Arawai aims to celebrate the range of activities and learning that that students engage with in the wider school and community, as well as encouraging them to try new activities and develop new skills. It reflects the school's vision to develop a community of curious ākonga who will shape the future through service and courage.

Underpinning principles

At Tawa Intermediate we are committed to excellence and to developing young people who are connected and committed to their own learning. We especially value the concepts expressed in our school values and are focussed on supporting learners to develop their character through understanding, using and showing these.

We also believe that pathways to success differ. As an intermediate school, we pride ourselves on introducing a wide and varied range of opportunities to engage learners in new interests - Te Arawai supports this concept, acknowledging different learners, their current skills and interests and providing challenge to extend them.
